1128842 2010-08-17 23:13:00 Yello, anyone have any ideas about keeping ants out of the cat's food bowl?
I've tried chalk around the food area but that doesn't seem to work, might have to look at a bowl within a bowl with water inbetween, cheers

1128843 2010-08-18 00:21:00 Yep, Put the cat's dish in a shallow container of water. Ants can't swim :) Sue (33)
1128844 2010-08-18 00:37:00 Feed the cat every second day only, the ants will only have milliseconds to get at the food. R2x1 (4628)

1128846 2010-08-18 01:27:00 Hi Whenu

Simply spray white vinegar around the area where the cat eats and allow to dry.

Keep in mind however no non toxic method is going to work if you are in the habit of leaving cat food lying around in a bowl. This indicates chow time to the ants. Me thinks this is where the real problem is.

If your cat is leaving food it means you are giving it too much. Give smaller proportions more often, as cats are picky eaters.

Putting the cat's bowl in a larger bowl with a little water does work to a point but eventually the cat's bowl works closer and closer to the side the cat is eating from.

Feed cat when it's hungry, if it's not eating straight away - it isn't.
