1128480 2010-08-16 22:13:00 Former National MP and Children's Commissioner Roger McClay has admitted ripping off two charities he worked for.

The 65-year-old admitted billing nearly $12,000 to Keep New Zealand Beautiful, and nearly $13,000 to World Vision for flights the taxpayer had already paid for.

Personally, I believe these slug slimes should be convicted and made to do 20yrs hard labour .... in the outback of Australia .... without water.

Can anyone else suggest a suitable penalty for people like this ??

1128482 2010-08-16 22:22:00 These politicians are 100x worst than those beneficiaries - should be punished heavily! I wonder how many more politicians like this in NZ? bk T (215)

1128484 2010-08-17 01:21:00 He's not ripping the charities, they should have been paying for his flights. He was only entitled to the ex MP discount for personal flights so he was ripping off Parliamentary Services. PaulD (232)

If you had made the flight, you would charge ALL of the fare correct, why should the ex-mp pass on HIS bonus to the charity?

On saying that, i absolutely think the flight discount is just a rort and dont think ex-mp's should have such discounted flights for life...

How many trademan do you know that pass on their trade discount to consumers?

1128486 2010-08-17 01:42:00 I was more concerned about ALL of the rip-off merchants out there, not specifically MP's, but others who have highly responsible jobs who blatantly rip the system (read as normal middle to low income families) and get away with a slap on the wrist.

There was a Salvation Army (captain I think) that ripped off 1000's of $$ worth of food. The guys who ripped off Hanover investors, guy down here working at the DHB ripped off millions, etc, etc .... the list goes on and on.

They need to serve time behind bars and the Government need the resouces to trace back and seize all assests ... even those that have been "hidden" in others names, e.g. the family trust !!

He was using an ex Mp perk that was only for personal travel to fly on charity business and then charging the charity the car allowance as if he had driven. The charity would still have had to pay something it's the MP perk he wasn't supposed to be using.

It isn't like trade discount, more like using staff discount and reselling on Trademe.
