1128813 2010-08-18 01:40:00 Hmm, if you enjoyed Avatar then your love for Inception might be enough to put me off going to see it

I should rephrase that - I enjoyed looking at 3d graphical awesomeness for 2 hours, no so much the story line. ;)

1128814 2010-08-18 01:42:00 Those that cut hair for a living are our most intilligent gifted people, so if a random barber didn't "get it" then that's good enough for me....

I agree entirely, Metla.
Before the immigrants took over taxis, the random taxidriver was another source of knowledge. Sadly, that's no longer true.

Same here. It is not too often that a movie gets everything top notch.

Sometimes I can enjoy a movie if it simply has beautiful scenery, or good special effects, or action, or humour, or a meaningful story, or an actor that I like. It can work the other way also - if the humour is bad, or acting is awful, I will press Eject or walk out.

1128816 2010-08-18 01:51:00 One of the reviews suggested that the film would be much better for those who had read the books, which you had done, so maybe that review was right?

Yes, I imagine it would be a bit confusing for those who did not see/read the first one because it follows on from that, and nicely sets up for the third of the trilogy, when everything comes together and all issues get resolved.

Actually, the hardest thing with the books (and the movies) is to get your head around the Swedish names. Most of them start with B: Blomkvist, Bjork, Burland, Berger, Bodin, Bublanski, etc. And then there's Niemann and Niedermann.

The 'problem' of agreeing with Metla is not knowing :waughh: when he is being serious, flippant, witty or sarcastic. Tricky :nerd: guy, too clever for many of us.

Look at this word in his post: "intilligent". Normally I would see this as a simple typo or poor spelling, but with Metla it could very well be deliberate, to underline the point of his post.

I haven't seen the films, and have only read the first book. But yes! A bit like reading a Russian novel - too many characters, too many names, too many names that seem similar to a non-Swede/Russian. The first book was handy in having a reference list, and once I downloaded the maps, I found it easier.

1128819 2010-08-18 12:10:00 Inception was amazing! I refuse to watch "The girl who played with fire" because the book is absolutely not worth it beeswax34 (63)
1128820 2010-08-18 12:51:00 To a certain degree it comes down to a matter of taste.

Yes, you can argue about how 'good' a movie is in terms of artistic merit, effects, acting quality, etc but at the end of the day, almost every movie will be liked by some and hated by others.

It is pointless to say that someone is 'wrong' because they like or dislike a movie.

In this case it appears the critics are in line with most people's opinion. And I liked it too.

Exactly. I try to tell this to some people and the just say "no, it's impossible, you're insane if you think xxxxxxx is good\bad"

Anyway, personally I liked Inception. I even thought it was better than the TV trailer made me believe.

I haven't seen "The Girl who played with Fire" but I'd probably like that, too.

1128822 2010-08-20 03:39:00 If you want a reliable and renowned film critic, Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times is your man.

Generally I use IMDB for film reviews and Ebert is usually linked.
