Lets presume an average song is 3:40 (220 seconds) and you have 11634 songs.

Now lets look at paying for this via iTunes at approx $1.29 per-song, and you get the whopping total of $15,008
Or, if you assume an average of 16 tracks per-CD and that the CD cost $17.99, that gives you $13,081

Likely paid for? I think not.

Bragging over pirated materials, hmmm .. to :ban or not to :ban?

1127984 2010-08-16 09:50:00 Not bad if I do say so myself...

My brag. I don't customise stuff, I like just neat and tidy OEM. Be it my computer, self built thou but just neat and tidy, OEM HSF etc etc and none of those flashing lights. I like Lenovo laptops, Nokia phones, my Audi, save my peanuts and travel overseas to places with a culture shock appreciation, which AU doesn't meet :D Don't really eat out cos they are all pretty avg, and many of them are not that hard to make anyway, unless you bankrupt yourself. Now I don't think I will get banned :p

Flying has been suspended due to a slow heart of me but working on it. Now I get to dodge xray machines at airports. So I bet the odds.

Who's betting that Nomad's saving his peanuts to go to Guam :devil

Chill, I don't mean to be argumentitive but it is not very nice to presume that someone pirated their music collection. It is perfectly plausible for a person to have spent $13,000 over their lifetime accumulating music.

Over, say, 6 years that's about $40 a week which is about two CDs. It would not surprise me if there are people out their who buy two CDs a week.

It's certainly uncommon and unlikely, but to assume piracy as a forgone conclusion seems a little rude.

1127986 2010-08-16 10:30:00 True, but ubergeek85 has skated on thin ice around that topic before from what I remember...

I fully appreciate you could well be right though ;)

Still possible though, so I'm not sure an immediate ban was necessarily the best course of action here. Erayd (23)
1127989 2010-08-16 21:14:00 Potentially. However, lets look at it this way:
If you're copying your music to your PC from CD, you're going to use an app that will automatically tag it, such as Windows Media Player or iTunes.
If you're copying some of your CD's that are unique and don't have records in Gracenote / CDDB / whatever, then you're going to manually tag it as quickly as possible if you know that you're doing two a week, and you're *not* about to go adding in extra speech marks, digits, periods, plus / minus signs, or anything else like that.

The whole second screenshot *screams* "Look at what I downloaded", and we're not allowed to take the approach here of condoning piracy, as set out in the rules by FFBM. Granted it can be a grey area at times, and there's not 100% certain way to know this is all pirated or not, but lets call it an educated hunch.

1127991 2010-08-16 23:13:00 I have a lot of CDs that I did not pay $30 each for.

2nd-hand shops often sell them for $1 or $2, TradeMe can also be quite cheap.

But I would also be very surprised if he hadn't pirated that music...
