| 1127841 | 2010-08-15 09:33:00 | tauranga authoritys built a 2 lane roundy, it also was to small. they refused to listen. one day a 40ft log trailer/tractor and a full size semi got tangeled up on the too small roundy. land transport and cviu both said after much measuring and gaming, roundy too small. no drivers at fault. tauranga authoritys and tauranga cops, would not listen. insisted on prosecuting one driver. $10.000.00 + legall costs later, driver found not guilty. Judge stated ,Tauranga police and authoritys should have listened to cviu and land transport. Transport operator is still trying to recover costs for prosecution with out foundation. Perhaps something has been learned, leading to double checks and rectification prior to opening. I wonder if any beuracrat's will be fired for this gross waste of taxpayer funds. And still speed gets the blame, when in fact it is bad road engineering that is at fault. There is a road near us, which had a high accident rate, after engineering changes, the rate dropped to be one of the safest roads in the UK. There are no speed cameras at all along the road. |
