| 1129135 | 2010-08-22 11:48:00 | Global cooling has started! Not being entirely convinced by the arguments being bandied about by both sides I decided to do some careful testing based on actual measurements. There have been some short term variations, but the trend is very clear. After lunch it was reasonably warm, about tea time it got a bit cooler, but while tea was cooking it warmed up. Now it has got quite cool, and if I go outside it is almost chilly, whereas at lunchtime outdoors was warmer than indoors. (Outwindows is being intentionally ignored as it is error prone.) No numerical values are being recorded lest statisticians analyse them and publish a Booker Prize winner. At present the Earths temperature is falling, and at this rate we are in for smaller harbours at low tide without a doubt. At High tide, beaches will shrink alarmingly, and the Tasman Sea can expect surface flooding for some time yet. Expect odd showers, as it is impossible to get even these days. |

| 1129136 | 2010-08-22 13:56:00 | what is required is targeted population managment. china has been doing this for nearly 40 years. they are now seing positive results and in some areas the 1 child policy is now, "only one child PLEASE". this does as yet not apply to the han chineese whose population is still far to large compared to their 1945 numbers. Umm.....well, No. The Chinese One-Child Policy has been in place since 1979, a period of 30 years. It has not worked. It only applied to Han chinese and not to Tibet, Macau, Hong Kong and some other regions. Furthermore it has been ignored by most of the population. Big ups to China for trying but stopping people from the most fundamental human act - making babies - is doomed to failure. |

| 1129137 | 2010-08-22 14:06:00 | Im stunned that our Prime Minister thinks he can save the planet by raising the price of everything, even electricity, which is mainly Hydro Generated in NZ. The ETS (de facto carbon tax) is very simple. By increasing the cost of carbon based (polluting) industries, we buyers look for cheaper alternatives. The industries themselves look for alternatives. Electricity is a good example - hydro generation does not attract carbon taxes whereas coal fired plants such as Huntly are loaded with tax. Just for the sake of rationality, NZ is almost a decade behind Europe which has had carbon taxes since 2000. For example, British Gas pay the Christchurch City Council almost $1 million per year for carbon captured by the Burnside landfill. |

A decade down the line from Carbon Tax in Europe and it hasnt fixed anything . |
