1171892 2011-01-23 09:09:00 My son has just bought a Toshiba L640/o9m 2.35GHz,4GB Ram,500HDD.
Question, should he set windows 7 up as 32 or 64, he only uses his computer for e-mails,surfing the net and a bit of Microsoft office work. One other thing,he got Norton 360 free for a year with computer, should he use it or sell it trade-me
as I haven't many good things said about Norton.:help:

1171893 2011-01-23 09:16:00 If you want to see / use 4 GB get 64 bit. I take it it supports 64 bit? No, get rid of norton and install something else Speedy Gonzales (78)
1171894 2011-01-23 09:40:00 Yes, Toshiba give you the choice. I have found 64bit produces better performance with these units. Norton is good but it is a bit like driving with the hand brake on. PENTIUM (426)

I would not bother installing same anyway.

1171896 2011-01-23 18:28:00 64bit - no brainer.

As for the antivirus - I wouldn't install Norton on any of my machines.

1171898 2011-01-23 19:56:00 64 is the way.
Install or dont as you please. ALL anti-virus slow the machines down and they are all as bad as each other in that respect. Anything that has to access files while you load/save must slow down the PC. Nortons is as good as any and they all miss something.

1171899 2011-01-23 21:28:00 Norton is actually quite quick since the 2010 version. I use it and as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't slow the computer down any more than any other antivirus/internet security package. I did use it years ago and it was indeed very resource-consuming, but I'm very impressed with the speed of the new version. People just seem to be unwilling to let go of their opinions of Norton based on the older versions. ryanjames.powell (13554)

I agree, the speed and resource use of the newer NAV versions is fantastic.

Shame about the rubbish detection rates.
