1172933 2011-01-27 08:15:00 Hi, Press F1'ers.
I am running Windows XP SP3 on my machine. Several days ago, I had to repair a faulty CD/DVD Drive (which I did). The guy who assisted me removed all the pluigs and cables from the rear of the machine to facilitate moveing the cabinet. Some six USB plugs were removed. I'm sure they didn't go back in the correct (former) positions. Now, when I boot up, I get a small stylised 'X' appearing at the righthand end of the Task Bar, and a bubble, saying 'Found New Hardware. HID Non-User Input Data Filter. This is followed by a dialogue box, saying 'Cannot install this hardware. There was a problem installing this hardware. HID Non-User Input Data Filter. An error occurred during the installation of this device. Fatal error during installation. Click 'Finish' to close.' Once I click 'Finsih' the dialogue box closes and there are no further symptoms (until the next boot up).

I have tried moving the devices with USB plugs into different sockets, but that makes no difference.

How can I rectify this situation?Cheers.

1172934 2011-01-27 08:44:00 take it back to the guy who "fixed" and get him to fix it GameJunkie (72)
1172935 2011-01-27 08:52:00 Could be the USB ports have gotten all buggered up.

What "Should Happen" is the drivers automatically install to the correct port.

What may or may not work - read as may make matters worse:

Unplug all USB devices - right click My Computer/ Properties/ Hardware Tab/ Device manager - expand out the USB list, right click each one and uninstall.

Reboot, and the USB "should" reinstall its drivers, then plug in one device at a time.

BUT as mentioned -- this could also make things worse if there are further software problems.

1172936 2011-01-27 08:54:00 Did you install some Intellipoint hardware/software (like a keyboard/mouse)?

And is PowerDVD on this?? It looks like this can bugger up that driver

1172937 2011-01-27 09:31:00 Hi, Speedy. Have both Intellipoint (mouse) and Intellitype (keyboard) onboard. Both are working fine. I don't have powerDVD, though. Where to from here? Cheers. A Team (13613)

1172939 2011-01-30 17:09:00 Hi, All. I did as WT suggested, but it did not workm unfortunately. I understand that HID means Human Interface Device, if that helps. Any ideas? Cheers. A Team (13613)
1172940 2011-01-30 19:10:00 Try this -- go to This site MS (catalog.update.microsoft.com) USE IE, it wont work with any other browser.

Select and Download the file for XP, save it, then use it to install the drivers.
