1172893 2011-01-27 02:51:00 So a few years ago, my parents purchased a 50 inch, sony bravia, rear projection TV against my suggestions and apparently today, when they turned it on, it said that the projection lamp is nearing then end of it's lifetime or something, and I have no idea where to get one from. Does anyone know where to buy one from and how much they would cost? nerd (109)

1172895 2011-01-27 03:04:00 I would have thought you'd need a trained tech to get inside there and replace it safely, no? If not, yeah get a bulb from link above, otherwise try a Sony Support Centre nearest you... www.sony.co.nz Halwende (3418)
1172896 2011-01-27 03:53:00 lol, my parents hate buying stuff off the internet, it's gonna be funny if that's the only place to get them. I did a google search, but it was the only decent looking place I could find too, which is why I asked here if anyone knew. nerd (109)
1172897 2011-01-27 04:43:00 What would it be worth in going condition ?

As it may not be worth doing ,always put it TM "as is" condition and see what happens

1172899 2011-01-28 00:02:00 Looks pretty simple. Handling the lamp with clean gloves probably the most important bit. Plenty of instructions, Youtube vids etc , Google is your friend. PPp (9511)
1172900 2011-01-28 00:08:00 Just by taking the old bulb out and putting it back in should reset what ever it is that tills you to replace it.

1172901 2011-01-28 02:43:00 The alternative is taking to a local TV repair place, seems the obvious answer to me. Good old yellow pages FTW (prehistoric google for you youngsters).

But I don't think I'd replace it just because the TV says so, as long as the picture is bright enough and it's still working ok I'd leave it til it actually fails.

IME the bulbs don't have any smarts in them at all, its just done off an hour timer. Usually a key combo on the remote resets it.
