| 1172682 | 2011-01-26 00:28:00 | This morning, MSE upgrade notification pops up and I clicked to upgrade it. The upgrade process went through smoothly and as usual, I have to restart the PC to complete the installation. After the computer has restarted I found that the MSE desktop short-cut icon and the the system tray icon have both disappeared. Launched MSE just to check whether it is still there, yes, it's still there and my computer is protected. Do you guys having the same thing or just me? |

| 1172684 | 2011-01-26 00:39:00 | I did a clean install of Windows 7 last night, installed MSE from a saved .exe file, it installed, scanned and grabbed updated definitions - after a reboot it gave me the same thing, saying it was upgrading and had to reboot again yeah The executable was only about a month old Maybe they did a major update / change to the actual program itself just recently |

If you are running Win 7, have a look in Start-All Programs, you can drag and drop the Microsoft Security Essentials shortcut to your desktop if you want it there. Then click on the "Show Hidden Icons" arrows in system tray and see if the MSSE system tray icon is there. If so, drag it to the tray itself. |

Yeah, I did exactly that to create the desktop shortcut and somehow, after a couple fo reboots, the system tray icon came back. Anyway, no big deal, as long as it works. |

| 1172689 | 2011-01-26 23:15:00 | The new version auto-downloaded late yesterday, rebooted, then told me I had other AV programs installed and did not open. I have no other AV than MSE. I rebooted and did a manual update which downloaded again, installed and ran fine after that. Maybe MS have a bit of a glitch in this release? Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 1172690 | 2011-01-26 23:25:00 | I've had a couple of times when the upgrade causes MSSE to crap out, the processes are there but the GUI goes on holiday. I've just reinstalled and it's gone fine. This would only be 2 or 3 out of 25 or 30 though, generally they are fine. Another random thing, on windows update they are still dealing out the old version or at least they were on monday. |
