| 1172653 | 2011-01-26 04:54:00 | update: followed the instructions in the link terry gave. let the command prompt thing run through. when it came to reinstalling the windows update agent, i get the error info "windows update agent encountered an unrecoverable error" running the ifixit in normal or agressive mode gives and error code of 2738. running windows update gives the error code 80070490 or just warns me to check for updates help?? |

| 1172654 | 2011-01-26 06:25:00 | It may be the missing Registry key issue. I found I had to manually insert a registry key when doing an update. Cant remember if it was XP or Vista though. Only found after wading through the humungus log file that the update leaves. | veldthui (15543) | ||

| 1172656 | 2011-01-26 07:03:00 | No Idea if This article (www.windowsreference.com) will be of any help or not, (under manual install at the end) but the link in your first post to the tool looks like its only doing half the job. According to that site above, there are some steps to do before you run that tool. Worth a crack :D Edited; does the following apply - found another cause/solution: people who have installed Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120%. Apparently there was a problematic file |
