| 1172632 | 2011-01-25 21:26:00 | Genuine OEM XP disk with sticker; Owner has a box with linux installed and wants XP also; Am I on the right track if I reformat the disk and then install or can I keep linux on its partition and install XP.. I have a feeling the disk may have been used once to install on a new machine but all appears above board at this stage. |

Installing linux after XP will usually give you a boot menu using GRUB or similar. If the OEM software is installed on another PC then legally it can't be used again on a different machine. If it has been activated recently but is not currently installed and belongs to the PC in question then you may either have to wait a few months for the activation to reset or contacty microsoft with the number that comes up and get a new key. If it installs and activates without doing this you are probably fine |

Shouldn't be used on two PCs, but if it came from one that is now dead or gathering dust, it will work just fine . IT will activate too but you may get the "this was previously in use questions" but it will work . MS says you must throw it out though . . . . . . . . . . . of course, he might lose a bit of money . |
