1172501 2011-01-25 08:09:00 I have some inlaws who just purchased a pair of Galaxy S handsets (must be jealous of mine or something . . . :p) . They run a business, so want to get all their e-mails on both/either handsets .

The problem is that they're with Telecom, and I can't find whether Telecom support IMAP . If not, I'm thinking they'll probably have to put a forward rule in place to a Gmail account, so it's all fully centralized .

If they both want to see each others' replies, I can't see how POPing to either handset would work?

Any ideas?

1172502 2011-01-25 08:36:00 Using GMail or Google Apps is a better idea in the long run anyway, unless Xtra has changed the amount of storage they provide in a very big way - last time I looked, frugal would be an extremely charitable description.

Remember, with IMAP *all* the mail is stored on the server, so you need to make sure your mail service provides enough storage, and that the storage is reliable.

GMail can automatically grab mail from POP accounts; you don't need to set a forwarding rule.

Yes, I think the quality and quantity of storage and availability is a risk they're just going to have to take if they want synchronous access to mail; didn't realize Gmail could grab mail - thanks for the tip! :thumbs

Yep.
They'll even read it for you too, and advertise to you based on it's content :stare:

1172505 2011-01-25 09:34:00 Ive set up an iPad using telecom mail, I either set it up as imap or pop with leave a copy on the server - can't quite remember but it works. You basically use yahoos settings to get it to work. Alex B (15479)

Well according to this page xtra mail has unlimited storage:
overview.mail.yahoo.com

But even so I still agree with going with gmail when signing up for a new email address, if you want to change internet providers but still want to keep your xtra email account since all your contacts know it, you'd need to switch to dial-up for $10 per month since email service is only offered with internet service.

nofam, my suggestion for your inlaws for a business is to go the google apps free route that Erayd suggested and register a nz domain for $30 per year. That way you get an email address like info@companyname.co.nz that is a lot more professional looking.
https://www.discountdomains.co.nz/
www.google.com

If you do go the gmail route, remember to set "send mail as" under settings -> accounts and import, so that when you send through gmail it still looks like it's coming from xtra (fewer email addresses customers know less confusion). And in the wizard set it to send through xtra servers instead of gmail servers otherwise in microsoft outlook it says: user@gmail.com on behalf of user@xtra.co.nz.

I don't think they offer imap, so that would be pop with leave a copy on server which unfortunately isn't the same as sync (imap) so replies sent on one device won't appear on the other device which nofam was wanting.
