Nice amount of RAM and the USB 3 and SATA 3 will give good I/O throughput, as Intel now support these standards natively instead of the Marvel chip. The Graphic card is now 3 generations old and doesnt support DX11, however still not a bad card and CUDA support will help offloading from the CPU for supported applications, not that you will need it with the CPU...Personally, for an extra $75, I would go current gen with the GTS450.. All in all, the difference between your existing PC and this is night and day...at least 5 times quicker! |

As to offloading to CUDA, sandy bridge's onboard video encoding is faster but you'd have to use onboard Video and appropriate software to benefit from it (just an interesting bit of trivia). And unless you plan to be a gamer i wouldn't worry about upgrading the graphics (I'm guessing with a 7 yr old pc this hasn't been a priority to date) Edit:nice PC but as to the price I'm not sure, I know for eg I can get OEM win7 for about $170 but if they are installing it the extra may be justified. It would be worth comparing prices with computerlounge or pp.co.nz and your local PC store |

| 1172073 | 2011-01-24 01:06:00 | I'm pretty sure if you use discrete graphics, you can't use the sandy bridge video encoding (called quick sync). It is supported by only two applications currently anyway. Also CUDA accelerated video encoding results in lower quality compared to software mode encoding. It surprises me the number of times people suggest using a discrete graphics card for video encoding. You only encode once but watch multiple times. Software mode: images.anandtech.com CUDA: images.anandtech.com |

| 1172075 | 2011-01-24 01:56:00 | hhmm, in what way do you see the better quality in the GTX460 example? :) I think the cuda example is grainier (eg around the headlights of the police car) and looks like the movie has been strained through an 'old scratchy film' filter. |

More of the picture is reproduced in the 460 sample....and as said, SB offload to photoshop... edit - another look does have CUDA grainier, however this could be drivers issues! |

| 1172077 | 2011-01-24 02:23:00 | Thanks all for comments, I have dealt with this Ch Ch company for 7 years and have purchased heaps from them for work (before I retired) and home and never had a problem.:banana Have to agree with you Utopian201 software mode does look better noted it on the road area esp. Sorry SoMiester. Still a learner when it comes to the Tech side so your comments are appreciated. Now ALL I have to do is convince SWMBO to get the card out again:rolleyes::rolleyes: |

You will enjoy the speed on the new machine without question, wish I could run an upgrade past the wife! |

| 1172079 | 2011-01-24 03:14:00 | Power Upgrade Box $1060 inc GST • Vantec TSX-300 Mid ATX Steel Tower Case, 520w PSU, Black That's the only part I don't like - PSU with case. Get a brand PSU - Corsair, Enermax in it instead. And I don't like this on their website: Warranty 1 Year RTB Warranty Gigabyte for instance has a 3 yr warranty - Motherboards, Graphics cards. CPU is 3 years. Western Digital HDDs are 3 years too. Tastech isn't rated too highly for after sales service - that is for RMAs and such. |
