1172029 2011-01-24 04:43:00 Come to think of it, true, roads don't change that often :P

I an not aware of the fact that Navman work like that, so probably will avoid it then...

Thanks for the info :D

I couldn't edit my previous post. It doesn't use a simcard. I meant the map you buy that can be provided on a SD memory card. They also sell CDs. Both of which for Navman needs a Internet connection for activation before you can use it to prevent piracy.

But with Navman you cannot buy a USA map take it overseas and use your friend's Navman device. Whereas I think Garmin and or TomTom allows one to simply drop the memory card into the unit and works as you are coming out of the car rental place .....

1172030 2011-01-24 06:54:00 Have you looked at the reviews of GPS's at the bottom here pcworld.co.nz

Have a no name Chinese 5" one running IGO which I find good
Have used both Tomtom and Garmin with the Tomtom more user friendly and is rock solid on the windscreen

Have a good look around as there is heaps of diff models available with diff options

1172032 2011-01-24 19:12:00 Re: the map updates. Forget it. Roads don't change often.

What country u living in. Roads change plenty. Also many have roads that don't exist so try and shunt you down the wrong way, one way roads change all the time so you may get directed down a one way road in the wrong direction, etc. The list goes on.
The GPS companies dont only make their money from selling the GPS but also ripping you a good one to update the map that is wrong.

read all the reviews....seems to be not quite the same as the stories I heard from you guys.....and with the Navmans, the reviewer never mentioned the maps which can't be transfered, etc......im confused-ish again......:annoyed:

1172036 2011-01-24 19:33:00 I have seen tourist campervans get sent down through the Moleworth by the GPS units in the camper before and even heard of one that allegedly tried to send someone down the Rainbow road which is 4WD only.

Powerover see this thread over at Chat (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) and see if it suits you too

1172037 2011-01-24 19:39:00 Have to remember that you can't swap SD cards between units as they are tied to each individual GPS unit

If you know a few people with GPS units, get them to give you a demo and give you a honest appraisal (everyone has the best GPS)
