1130388 2010-08-22 00:16:00 Thanks Trev, no caving today just lunch with SWMBO, woke up yesterday with a backache that wouldn't let me bend over, a lot better today though so just taking it easy

I noticed that you were wearing a Macpac pack in the photos of your Copland trip. Is it one of the latest designs, or an oldie?

I have been told that the latest Cascade packs can do that to your back - evidently there is a design fault so that something pokes into the small of your back, and can cause problems. A tramping shop owner told me - he insisted that Macpac change their design or he would stop selling them. Macpac basically told him to naff off, so he stopped selling their products for this reason. He still had a few in stock, but talked me out of buying one!

Anyway, have a great birthday.

1130390 2010-08-22 00:31:00 That pack is 8 years old and has never caused any problems before so I don't think it's that, have been home since Tuesday anyway. I wouldn't buy a new MACPAC since their not made in NZ anymore. That pack of mine is an Ascent and I also have a 15 year old pursuit which is my favourite pack ever but just too small for the big trips gary67 (56)
1130391 2010-08-22 01:35:00 My Cascade is maroon in colour, and about 20 years old now and still brilliant. Replaced the waist belt last year - the old one shrank in length... Is your Pursuit purple and a sort of pink colour? I still have one, and you don't see many around these days. Leak like a sieve unfortunately, but still my fav day pack.

If I got around to replacing the Cascade, I would look seriously at anything other than Macpac. Sad really because most of my gear is made by them and I always had such a high opinion of them before they were sold. There is another NZ manufacturer - name escapes me at the moment. They make really solid gear.
PS Edited - Cactus Climbing is the NZ manufacturer. Products built like the proverbial.
