| 1173796 | 2011-01-30 20:15:00 | Hey all, Sorry if there is already a thread of this nature, although when i searched i couldn't find anything recent . I am moving next week so it seems like a good time to re-evaluate my ISP . I am currently with xnet on the river plan which is good however i have a phone line with telecom that i don't use . All up we pay around $110 a month and use approx 30gb, for phoneline + broadband . With zero use for a phone line other than internet surely there is a naked broadband option that is better value - we use around 30gb and live in central Wellington . I see Vodafone has $95 for 30gb - any thoughts on them? Anyone else you could recommend? Any help would be really appreciated . Cheers . |

Secondly, Naked ADSL cost about $20 per month for the service and the ones I had a look at only does FS/FS. So if you are happy with a slower combination ...... $20 - in otherwords if you pay $70 for broadband and ~$40 for the landline. Naked ADSL isn't just $60, they'll generally put you in a Naked ADSL plan that might cost all up about $90. If you are happy with Xnet, they have a Fusion Plan. If you are in Central Wellington how about Telstra "cable" Internet. I know that other than the lowest plan telephone is optional and unlike Naked ADSL, you really just pay for whatever Internet is. In the above example you might just pay $70 or I think there might even be a $50 or $60 plan. |

| 1173799 | 2011-01-30 20:55:00 | I have no need for VOIP as i have a mobile phone that is paid for by my work. So really any plans that come with VOIP mintutes would be wasted. |

| 1173801 | 2011-01-30 23:17:00 | As I understand it there is not such thing as a free landline. if you are using (say) Telecom's copper pair from your house to the exchange (or the roadside fibre cabinet), then somebody has to pay for the "landline" whether or not there is a phone connected to it. if you don't pay for it, then it will be included in the ISP charge. We are on Xnet VOIP (Xnet Fusion) which costs us much the same as broadband + Telecom phone. Unfortunately the Commerce Commission has put a $20 surcharge on "rural" areas (Timaru!!) which I did not know about when I signed up. |
