| 1173634 | 2011-01-30 07:30:00 | I need a Y USB cable to power an external HDD drive which didn't come with one. (I have tried a powered hub. It seems to solve the power problem but has a data incompatibility.) Ideally the Y should have a micro connector on one end and two standard USB connectors (which I call 'male') on the other end. Or the single end of the 'Y' could be the female version of the standard USB male instead of a micro. (it's definitely micro, not mini) That would allow the short cable that came with the HDD to be used (an adapter from micro to standard). The media player that I want to connect the HDD to has two standard USB (female) ports. These would suit a Y cable. But if I can't buy a Y cable, would it be feasible to cable the two ports to a non-powered hub and doing some snipping/jumpering inside the hub - probably using a USB crossover cable bas the output. Has anyone done that? |

The guy at Noel Leeming says the NZ WD contact has been helpful in the past and might be able to supply the required cable. (I bought the HDD from Dick Smith) Thanks for introducing me to that site:) |
