1173160 2011-01-27 20:34:00 I am selling my computer in the hope to get some more money for me since I don't need it and I have 2 spare PCs with small problems (Sound is weird on one, sometimes graphics doesn't work on other) that I can't sell. Therefore I am looking for a good price to sell it at, as well as looking for recommendations on what to upgrade on it. Here are the machine's specs:

Case: Generic
Motherboard: Asus P5GZ-MX - Bought off trademe
RAM: 768MB DDR2
HD: 80GB Western Digital IDE
DVD: BenQ DVDRW Drive SATA
TV Tuner: Asus Tiger-S - Can't seem to find drivers.
OS: Win XP Home
Power Supply: Generic 350W

Any suggestions on what to upgrade?

1173161 2011-01-27 20:39:00 Just by looking at the hard drive size and the ram, it looks like it's not worth much. Check on Trademe.

At a guess, maybe $50-75 if that. It might be so old that you might not even get any bids.

In terms of upgrading all you could do is keep the case and power supply if you are willing to keep that thing cos many people think you need to get a good "$200" one. keep the hard drive for data but it might be too slow if you needs are anything more than just surfing and emailing ... and swap everything in the case with a new Windows 7.

OTOH, if you are relatively happy with it, what about just up the RAM and keep it. Maybe the hard drive too if you that is not enough. Maybe treat yourself to a nice wide screen. If you are just surfing, emailing and have a budget ..

1173162 2011-01-27 20:45:00 very hard to price 2nd hand pc's the value drops rapidly but then again if someone has a use for it they may be willing to pay a little.

You don't mention what CPU ?
the rest of the specs are very Low, espeicially the RAM soI wouldn't expect this to sell for much. Almost at the point of not being worth selling. IMHO it's $50 - $100 unless you have a nice CPU in it. If you sod with creen kb etc maybe worth more.

1173163 2011-01-27 21:17:00 Didn't mention the CPU. Intel Celeron D 3.33GHz, can upgrade to Dual core pentium 3 GHZ
I was thinking about upgrading the HDD and RAM to 320GB SATA and 1-2GB.

1173164 2011-01-28 00:47:00 That CPU is the crippled budget Celeron....however, certainly more RAM should make it a little more responsive.............................just!..If it were me, Id get another LGA775 CPU SolMiester (139)
1173165 2011-01-28 03:44:00 I have 2 spare PCs with small problems (Sound is weird on one, sometimes graphics doesn't work on other) that I can't sell.

Better specs than the one you listed? Why not fix them? Sounds may be hardware related but then maybe it's just a driver problem.
Could always stick a separate sound card in it anyway.....

1173166 2011-01-28 05:00:00 I have got the new cpu in - works. The spare pc's I have wouldn't be worth fixing as they are too old. I have checked the driver and presume the physical sound card chip is to blame. I think this is because it lived the better part of it's life as a server, before I took it in. It was a good PC, but I think the one I'm going to sell would be more worth it. It is a fresh install of XP by the way. bot (15449)
1173167 2011-01-28 10:01:00 You don't need a sound card if you don't want . I only use headphones on my PC when I listen to music .

They are probably fine as a Internet box but if no one is using it, then what I do is donate it away . It saves on the real estate too .

As for the other, graphics not working, then I just donate it away, if one one wants it, then eDay it later this year . . .

1173168 2011-01-28 11:45:00 If you think you can't get rid of something, put it on Freecycle. You'll probably be surprised at how many people ask for it. Agent_24 (57)
