| 1132386 | 2010-08-28 01:42:00 | Sigh............ this is a festering sore at my work....................... The government has lowered the bar height for qualifications....... now a ECE centre does not have to be 100% qualified. it only needs to be 80% qualified. (ECE = Early Childhood Education Centre) im not sure how many centres in NZ are fully qualified and doing well because of that. in February next year a new 80% regulation for funding takes affect. and the happy news is? if you are still 100% qualified staff at your centre, you will only get 80% amount of funding...... we were the third centre to manage 100% funding........... we are privately owned....... so the board and management looks at $$$$$$$ so we have to wait...... to see what 80% effect they have in store for us....... do we up fees to cover the diff? do we lose hours? do we lose a staff member? how many other centres are in the same boat? its not like we dont have enough children at our centre, we often have a large waiting list....... we work with mainstream children and special needs as well. I love my job, and we work dam hard and lot of it is not seen, alot is planning, prepping and writing up pages of info (portfolios). This is our nations future we are talking about....... and possibly some teachers futures as well....... :( i can understand the worry of money...... but why punish the centres who do have 100% im sure the percentage is not over the top for them to keep the funding up to 100% for them is it? any opinions on this? beetle :( |

The government lowered it back you mean. Once upon a time when my son went to Kindy. Not Day Care, not Play Centre. Kindy. There were these nice ladies there who taught him things - I doubt they had any qualifications, nor did us mothers who were roped in to help on rostered days...... It's all stupid. |

| 1132391 | 2010-08-30 02:39:00 | The Kindy where we have our little boy, though he is not special needs as such, he does have needs which is why he is in full time kindy at the suggestion of GEC. Ok, we get the 20 hours free but the cost of the extra hours have gone up already. The Kindy has what the govt refers to as 100% but with the increased costs they have to pass on and the reduced funding, they are having to look at what they might offer in the future. Wasn't it Tolley who suggested that she couldn't understand what the fuss was about, use 80%'ers and problem solved.......... In lay terms though, exactly what is the difference between 100% and the 80%'ers. |
