1132396 2010-08-28 01:30:00 Hey everyone,

If you're interested, please take my survey on a Burqa ban in New Zealand...

spreadsheets.google.com Q

Or tell me your opinions here:

What would your opinion be if New Zealand enforced a public Burqa ban??
Do you agree with the French Burqa ban?

1132397 2010-08-28 01:34:00 Well people have their own culture, thats theirs. I see nothing wrong with it / them. So, I don't agree with the french ban. And I wouldn't vote for a NZ ban Speedy Gonzales (78)
1132398 2010-08-28 01:38:00 I am all for banning burkas they are an affront to women. prefect (6291)
1132399 2010-08-28 01:46:00 No skin off my nose what anyone wants to wear, Though some of those hoody wearers look dodgy.

At court or when they need to identify themselves is a different matter, But its not upto teh government to stipulate what anyone wears.

On that count I also do not support the gang patch bans, If people are criminals then put em in jail, keep them there, if not then who gives a damn?

1132400 2010-08-28 02:30:00 If I came across a woman wearing one in the street - no big deal.

If I came across a woman wearing one on an internal or external Air New Zealand flight, it would probably be a different matter :(

1132401 2010-08-28 03:39:00 I think it should be optional. But if a woman of that culture decides to not wear it, then she should be protected against any backlash or discrimination. SoniKalien (792)
1132402 2010-08-28 03:51:00 Wear what you like when you like. Can't see why it would affect anyone else. Might be different if they decided to wear nothing.

Zippity: Don't understand why it is ok in one instance but not in another. What's the difference?

One place where it does matter is in court as Metla has pointed out. I think it must be removed in a case where positive identification is essential. Otherwise, leave them alone.

And you, being a woman, care?
I don't.
If they are being made to wear it, that's one thing - if they choose to wear it - who are we to dictate what they should or shouldn't wear?

Ban - how arrogant, ban nothing if it isn't harming those involved.

They don't always choose to be a part of the religion but it is expected . They don't always choose to wear a burqa but it is expected . They have been brought up with the religion in the same way as their parents have been and so being part of their parents way of life is expected .

If that is the way you are brought up then that is what you do . Choice, in many cases, is not an option so they do what they are told and they believe what they are told to believe . The same thing happens all over the world in many different religions . This practice is just more visable .

Having said that, I agree with Pctek . Who are we to dictate? Wear what you like .
