1131325 2010-08-24 07:00:00 Does it matter what ethernet cable I use on my xbox 360? is cat6 compatible with xbox live? Is it faster than cat5e? icow (15313)
1131326 2010-08-24 07:05:00 Won't make any difference to the speed but either will work.

1131327 2010-08-24 07:08:00 Faster but not required. cat5 will work fine. The Error Guy (14052)
1131328 2010-08-24 07:09:00 speed is dependent on the network adapter. But gigabit will work on both 5e and 6. utopian201 (6245)

I remember that you have said once that the theoretical higher speed that Cat6 offers can only be attained if the cables are not bent. Does that still hold true?

1131330 2010-08-24 11:43:00 Doesnt really matter since its only 10/100 Speedy Gonzales (78)

Does that still hold true? No. They're twisted-pair cables; you can bend them quite happily. As long as you don't snap the cores, you won't notice any difference in performance.

Note that you don't really need cat6 unless you're doing something really insane; gigabit will run just fine over any cable rated cat5 or better.

It's only if you tie a knot in the cable that things slow down ;)

At high speed the cable is a transmission line, the specs say don't have bends tighter than ~25mm radius. Easier to do that than troubleshoot later.
