1131079 2010-08-24 00:59:00 PC World forums is the only site I use that puts iPads onto a mobile phone version of the site without an easily found option to change to the normal version.
Telecom, Vodafone, Stuff, NZ Herald, Met service and Kiwi Bank are just some of the NZ sites that are fine. All the Aussie and US sites I use are fine too. Just PC World behind the times... Interesting.

1131080 2010-08-24 01:34:00 Hi Sue,

We've been trialling a new mobile version of the forums, something I've been heading up myself. I was under the impression that (at the request of FFBM) I'd put in an exception for the iPad so it would show only the Desktop version. I've made another adjustment, could you please try again?

Unfortunately, we can't have it user-selectable, otherwise it would also apply to regular users on the Desktop version, so we have to look at the browser / device the request is coming from (The User Agent string) and force a theme according to that.

Let me know how you go

Cheers

Chill.

1131081 2010-08-24 01:40:00 I have used it v briefly with someone's iPad.

IMO:
iPad - will be popular as for obvious reasons.
For consumers generally it meets their needs - the casual email, web use, movies, music. Despite the smaller HDD for general consumers they should be fine. Pricewise it's on par with the iPhone so it's not that expensive. I think the iPad is the same as the iPhone with better ergonomics.

Alternative Pads may be good business too.
I think maybe they will be great for travelling Netbook alternatives. They are half the size and almost half the weight to the Netbooks

Provided they have a larger HDD and USB ports and maybe connection with other devices like digicams, USB sticks, mobile phones.
With a larger HDD people can store videos and watch while on holiday, they can backup files like off a digicam.
Some may not require MS Office or Photoshop on holiday.

Pads may not be ideal for touch typers thou for those who type on holiday.

Computers have gone so fast now. For admin work some business workers could even use a Netbook or a Ultraportable (more power but more $$). For the others out there the Pads may be an option.

1131083 2010-08-25 22:09:00 Many Thanks Chilling, all fixed.
The NZ Met service has a button on the bottom of their mobile site to change over to the standard site..
:thanks
