1131312 2010-08-27 10:14:00 Thanks SG and Gary. The desktops being posted this time somehow look enormous. My screen is 18" and it must be a different aspect ratio as well, because these posted desktops look like a cinerama screen compared with mine! My Phillips cost a b... fortune when I bought it, but now it looks like a clunker!!! Still, I have had umpteen years out of it.

What are people recommending these days for a brand of monitor?

Depends what you want it to have. i brought this (viewsonic),, because its got VGA, Hdmi and DVI. And Audio in and out.

I use HDMI for the Xbox, DVI for the computer. And I can connect the audio out from the case, to audio in and plug headphones into audio out

1131315 2010-08-27 10:35:00 Thanks SG. I understand Viewsonic is quite a good brand.

I won't ever have an XBox or anything like that, but i would like:

1. more real estate (would enjoy two monitors for work, but that would require buying a new desk as well...)
2. crisp resolution/wide screen
3. audio out to my headphones or Altec Lansing speakers - if I could change over connections from the monitor rather than scrabbling around the back of the pc case, that would be good.

Thanks - apologies for temporarily hijacking the thread.

1131316 2010-08-27 10:44:00 I wouldnt bother connecting speakers to audio out on a monitor. Its too tinny.

Its not too bad with headphones on this tho. Altho the headphones I've got are pretty crappy. I'll be replacing them soon

would be nice to have full HD, and you can get 1080p on higher end 15.6" screens.
