1174020 2011-01-31 18:47:00 I have been in IT service since 92, I believe teaching old people a nightmare?

Yes.

That's what I've noticed is the difference between corporate IT support personnel and those of us that support home users.

The attitude.

1174021 2011-01-31 19:12:00 Well Sol, you must have had a bad day, -- I never said you were a smart arse .

Read that again . Its easier teaching someone who knows nothing and is willing to learn, than a person who thinks they know it all, and thinks they cant be taught anything .
Mind you, with being a consultant, you will come across all types of people when doing consultancy work, old, young people, with and without knowledge .

Just because you don't like helping older people - many others do . Didn't you learn to respect older people .

I really feel sorry for you -- I just hope when you get old like the people you hate teaching, someone will help you when its needed .

Theres an old saying - no one knows everything - only an idiot thinks they do .

I thought you were having a go at me, if you weren't, Im glad, I didnt want to have a shooting match . . . sorry if a jumped on you! . . .

I have had to teach old people, that's why I made the comment . . . . I pull my head out everytime I have to show my mother something!!

me - ''This is the keyboard and is used for . . . . . . , along with this mouse . . . . "
them - "I know what a mouse is sonny, are you trying to be a smart arse?"

Sorry you didnt like the humour!!:crying

1174023 2011-01-31 22:56:00 Wainuitech, I wished all techs had your great attitude towards service. Keep up the good work. Cheers. Pato (2463)
1174024 2011-02-01 00:06:00 ?

I'll spell it out then.
I got a customer years ago. Because she, in her 60's had walked into a PC shop to buy a PC. Snotboy there laughed and told her she was to old.
She's remained a good friend of mine now ever since and is now 82 and still owns a computer (the 5th since then).

I have worked for various places doing IT support. Most of the others had the same kind of attitude, not just with age, but any new or not confident user. They were extremely arrogant and derogatory towards them.

Forgetting of course, when they were totally new to computers and didn't have a clue either.

Most have no idea how to talk to them. A little simple explaining goes a long way, blinding them with your amazingness and jargon tends to put them off and cause resistance.

Seems humour goes over your head as well, but gotta love your generalisations....LOL...Im sure WT can handle the heat in the kitchen without your 2c PCT, its generally considered bad manners to step into a conversation that you weren't included in!

1174028 2011-02-01 01:07:00 It's a forum and I, among others, butt in because we can and are motivated for various reasons to do so.

I butted in earlier on post # 19 for example.

Didn't realise this was a little joke you and WT were having.
Thought it was a thread.
