1173949 2011-01-31 22:06:00 I have not seen any card in the 4XX range that does not have a reference cooler. DeSade (984)
1173950 2011-01-31 22:28:00 I have a Palit GTX460 and it's definately not a reference cooler, or board for that matter. Performance is great too. dugimodo (138)

Thanks its my backup heater on those cold CHCH winter mornings :P

reference cooler?

Basically some GPU companies will release a version of card with a more efficient cooler than the original Nvidia design . Often cooler and quieter, better for overclocking .

Maybe it was only the 480 that did not get a custom cooler from anyone.

yea was just kidding, its temps and noise are very nice. Have to set custom fan settings for higher OCing but even then cooler noise is very tolerable. Had far nosier cards I remember a old Asus 7950 GT with a reference cooler, that cooler was a hunk of junk.

Gigabyte did a GTX480 with one of their Windforce non-reference coolers.
