Basically some GPU companies will release a version of card with a more efficient cooler than the original Nvidia design . Often cooler and quieter, better for overclocking . I have not seen any card in the 4XX range that does not have a reference cooler . If you open up my previous link you will see one |

Have to set custom fan settings for higher OCing but even then cooler noise is very tolerable. Had far nosier cards I remember a old Asus 7950 GT with a reference cooler, that cooler was a hunk of junk. |
