| 1132490 | 2010-08-28 21:13:00 | Its more an exercise to see what the general views are of current hardware are, I'm not in the market for a new system just yet. . No point in doing it now then, it will all be different later. |

| 1132491 | 2010-08-28 22:09:00 | My 2c - Computer Lounge. No case, factory fans etc., no keyb / mouse $637.29 Combo: ASUS P7H55-M Intel H55 i7/i5/i3 DDR3 uATX PCI-E Combo: Intel Core i5 650 Clarkdale 3.20GHz 4MB 73W LGA1156 Combo: SuperTalent Performance Series 2x2GB DDR3-1600 CL9 Then: LG UH08LS10 Blu-Ray Combo, BD-Rom & DVD Rewriter OEM $189.00 Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200.12 32MB SATA II $109 ASUS Geforce ENGTS250 1GB GDDR3 PCI-E WOW Edition $235 All up: $1170. It has a Blue Ray reader. CL didn't have much BlueRay drives so I just chose the LG one for a price indication. Not sure on the vid card thou I just chose the mid price one :D If it didn't need games, I would reduce $235 for onboard video, 500GB less $50, no BlueRay reduce $100. Reduce RAM $100 perhaps. Then maybe $550 :D |

| 1132496 | 2010-08-29 08:06:00 | Is that really nessecary? Hell yeah! It's not uncommon for me to have 8-12 tabs open at once. Combine it with chrome launching tabs in separate threads, and (for me at least) it might just pass muster. Looking back at that earlier thread... Ha! My laptop matches that (mostly, has 2Gb RAM, onboard nvidia gfx, AMD turion dual core, 160Gb HD). I picked it up for about $950. Two years ago. |

Combine it with chrome launching tabs in separate threads, and (for me at least) it might just pass muster. But we're talking about general family usage aren't we? As metla(?) said, nothing too fancy... I usually have a lot of tabs open at once and many progs but my 4gb ram makes that a breeze, and my i5 430M is plenty for the chob. If I had a family and was building a family pc, I wouldn't make it an i7 because my family would have no need for that much power (assuming the kids aren't mad pc gamers), and I would have my own machine with an i7 :) I'm thinking i5 750 - $300 Asus P7P55D-E - $236 250GB 7200 8MB - $58 DVD Burner - $36 2x2GB DDR3 1333 - $134 512MB DDR3 HDMI - $78 420w PSU and case - $47 2.1 Speakers - $60 22" FullHD - $220 Wireless KB+Mouse - $32 Total - $1201 |

Combine it with chrome launching tabs in separate threads, and (for me at least) it might just pass muster. Meh, my single core P3 500 routinely has 8-12 tabs open. Admittedly, at times it grinds to a complete halt if there's java on a lot of those pages, but it sure doesn't justify 6 cores and multiple GHz. You're a power-user. This is more of a quest for a good all-round machine for a joe-average family with limited cash. Must say though, I love tabbed browsing. The mugs who go forward and back using a single page all the time are grinding across the net in low gear. |

| 1132499 | 2010-09-01 20:45:00 | Straight up, homie, multi-tab browsing is the fizzle. I used to hate it when my whack celeron with 256mb pc100 ram got frizzled with 6 open tabs, now I've got 4gb ddr3, I can keep poppin' those tabs like a brizzle. | jareemon (5207) | ||
