1132406 2010-08-28 07:41:00 These old primitive mind-sets coming from ancient religions are one of the things causing problems in the world today, women wearing burqa's is an affront to all the development that has taken place since the New Testament.

It is another example of disguised male chauvinism, these women don't know any better and have been trained into this mind-set.

1132407 2010-08-28 07:42:00 Try talking to someone in one, it is very disturbing, and not only that, makes it hard to understand what they are saying. But I can see why some places won't allow them, like airplanes, banks and such like.

Have you considered that one of the problems is deluded souls trying to force their cultural conditioning onto others?

1132409 2010-08-28 07:50:00 I think it should be optional. But if a woman of that culture decides to not wear it, then she should be protected against any backlash or discrimination.

Try to reverse that statement in a Muslim country. If you don't conform to the local female oppressing culture then you likely to land in jail if your a western female. If the people want to come to NZ let them conform to our culture and not bring their repressive culture with them . The west seems to fall over backwards to accommodate these people but I don't see their countries doing the same. This pandering will be the wests downfall..

Islam is one of the youngest religions out there, much later than the new testament.

That's the point. How do you allow it and protect the women?

She will chose to wear it if it is "optional", simply so her father/husband/whoever won't XYZ her and her community will shun her. Ain't easy to let go of the community is it?
So fear will keep this going. Only option is to ban it.

There is no win-win, but this would be the lesser evil.

Bugger me, I just so absolutely agree with you. Its just a man thing, treating women as property and the stupid woman have been brain washed into thinking its acceptable. Its just so totally not acceptable.
France Belgian are or will ban burkas, Holland will follow and most of the Western world except Germany (dont mention the war) will follow. Turkey has banned them for yonks.
They have no place in a modern world. NZ First is against burkas maybe if they are needed in a coalition they will make it a condition to ban them to form a government. I hope so anyway.

Agreed, which is why people such as yourself need to be stopped before you get going.

Your "norm" is not a good enough excuse to subjugate others.

1132415 2010-08-28 08:20:00 What about wearing a Swastika on a tee shirt while looking around Bergen Belsen?
Or wearing same on an ANZAC day parade say in Ngatimoti.
According to Snork its ok well it aint just like wearing a burka in NZ.
