1175273 2011-02-04 06:26:00 Hi all, I am currently repairing a laptop running vista basic I have just done a fresh rebuild of the OS and fully updated it. It was running super slow before the rebuild as it had only 512mb of ram and viruses. So the ram is now upgraded to 1.5gig. anyway doing windows updates it wanted to install office 2003 service pack 3, the wierd thing is that office xp is no longer installed on it, so I thought HDD corruption or faulty hard drive so i ran chkdsk but upon restart no wininit log in event viewer I have memtested the ram all clear and because I havent looked for a toshiba hdd testing software yet I used seatools and ADRD hard disk checker both came back ok. has anyone ever had this happen or know the cause? any input would be appreciated JMW (16217)

Can you please be a bit more clearer about the wording :
I have just done a fresh rebuild of the OS

What do you call a "rebuild' ?

Was it a fresh install, wiping out the old OS, or was it a repair install, leaving all data ?

Also - this is very confusing ??????
it wanted to install office 2003 service pack 3, the wierd thing is that office xp is no longer installed Office 2003 SP3 has nothing to do with Office XP ?

1175275 2011-02-04 09:37:00 If you reinstalled vista, did you use the recovery partition on the HDD or recovery discs (if they had been made), that is probably where your Office (trial?) came from (the Toshiba crapware); or did you do a repair install (same result). feersumendjinn (64)
