2011-02-03 08:50:00 | Hello I got a new PC at the start of this year thats quite powerful to say the least, specs as follows Intel i7 950 3.06 Ghz 12GB DDR3 1333MHz 1.25TB HDDs (250GB main, 1TB second) 750W PSU Gigabyte HD6870 1GB Gigabyte X58A-UD3R Windows 7 Home Premium and running 2 monitors Recently I've been having some quite serious lag, some are in game but the main problem is that I have a huge delay at start up all of a sudden when it would load a browser and music quickly now it takes minutes before it'll be ready to use once logged in. Is there another way to speed up and prevent the lag rather then by reinstalling Windows? The CPU and RAM never seem to run over 50% even when playing some games with other things open. Thanks for any help.

2011-02-03 10:36:00 | Antivirus is Avast 5.1 and Firewall .... Windows defender Yeah I've got Smart 6 installed but haven't really used it, I just enabled the quick boot and quick OS now so we'll see what happens. I'll restart the PC now to see the startup processes and then comment in a few minutes.

2011-02-03 10:44:00 | CPU load doesn't get anywhere near 50% I'd say not even 25% until I load everything up, but it idles at 0% and there wasn't really anything that took up a significant amount of load, although that could be because of the Smart6 software since it did boot up slightly faster. | Civic (15464) | |
2011-02-03 10:46:00 | Disable quick boot and quick os and see if it's any better. My gut feeling is that Smart6 may very well be the culprit of your pc lag.

Quite sure Smart6 will automatically put itself at top of the priority queue of your CPU process, and hence slowing down all other processes ie. Windows Media Player etc |

2011-02-03 10:56:00 | The thing is that when I've been having problems I haven't been using Smart6 although its been installed. Using Smart6 made it slightly quicker where without it, startup went to 37% max. It does seem strange though since its not only at startup that it lags and thats even when the CPU is below 50% so its not like its in over its head or anything.

2011-02-03 11:25:00 | I've just rebooted my PC, my cpu load settles back down between 0-1% within seconds of the desktop being fully loaded. My money is on Smart6 is running itself even though you're not using it and hence the relatively high CPU usage for the first few minutes of you booting onto your desktop. Un-install it and see how you get on. You can only install it again afterwards.
