1174893 2011-02-03 03:49:00 Hi

This is just a general enquiry. Attached is a screen shot of my System Resources Meter. Not a lot seems to be going on in the graphical section yet it's showing System Resources at 85%. So what sort of things would be taking this up? eg What percentage would the OS on it's own be?

Thanks

1174894 2011-02-03 03:54:00 Have you checked if it shows similar results in taskmanger. Is the software up to date? Also it might be good to have speedy look at the HJT log. Just in case something in stuffing with your hardware or slowing your pc down. icow (15313)
1174895 2011-02-03 04:02:00 Hi Icow

Completely forgot about Task Manager - I'll have a look when everything's quiet again. I (and Speedy) know I've got a lot of junk running at start up that I need to tidy up. I'm just wondering how to pinpoint if there is anything "Big and unnecessary that I can pinpoint and disable.

1174897 2011-02-03 04:09:00 Since that doesn't look like any standard Resource manger I have seen, I suggest you open the windows one.
What version of Windows are you using ?

Open Task manager - Processes, (W7) down the bottom click on "show processes from all users" look at the CPU list, that will tell you whats hogging anything.

1174898 2011-02-03 04:09:00 go into task manager and on the processes tab set it to order by memory usage. I normally consider anything that you aren't using at this very moment (and not system important) that is using a number larger than 4 figures unnecessary. If there are device managers for hardware like lightscribe cd drives and audio cards running large numbers while not in use look for updated software.

BTW try wainu's way as well as some programs don't use lots of memory but can be cpu hogs... Norton :D

1174899 2011-02-03 04:10:00 OK Speedy, but it'll have to be a bit later

Thanks

If this is answering my first post, I meant the software you were using to monitor your pc.

No that was in reply to Wainui's - I'll check out the monitoring software but it hasn't been installed that long (less than a year?)
