1174496 2011-02-02 01:40:00 I am interested in buying a Netbook but am a little concerned about Pixel defects.
One supplier states "May have some pixel defects"? Whet does this mean in practice. I presume that it depends on the manufacturer.? Any guidance would be appreciated.

1174497 2011-02-02 02:47:00 In practice, it means they are off the hook if it has 'some pixel defects'. Don't buy one of these unless you study the screen carefully.

Must say, though, the noise about screen defects seems to have died away which must reflect the much better manufacturing quality these days.

1174500 2011-02-02 07:04:00 I've got an old Slimview 700 bought about 2002 and got it cheap because I found 1 pixel that appears red on a white background ... they did say they'd replace it FOC if it got more than 5 bad pixels ... it's 2011 and still have only 1 red pixel which saved me around $200 at the time ... :D

Check pixels on a white background ... they show up easier.

Yes.
Somewhere it will specify the "acceptable" number/position of them.

For instance one or two in a corner will be allowed, a whole heap not. Or in the middle, where it's annoying and noticeable may not be allowed, or light versus dark pixeld.

Does depend on manufacturer.

1174502 2011-02-02 21:17:00 Some manufacturers have a zero dead pixel warranty - usually the more expensive models. For the rest there is a level of "acceptable" dead pixels that don't qualify for warranty replacement. Honestly though if the screen is bad enough to be noticeable more than occasionally it should be covered and a replacement offered.

Myself I dont remember the last pixel defect I saw, actually seems more common for people to break their screens physically than to suffer a pixel defect.

models (Samsung etc ??)
Some dont.
Some retailers do not offer you the manufacturers policy, perhaps only a 1 year limited warranty (parallel imports etc)
