1174287 2011-02-01 10:02:00 I've got an emachines el1850 that's been running smoothly for about a year now. It still boots normally, the BIOS gives me the one beep "everything is a-okay" message, but about 5 minutes after logging on, the internal speakers make one ~3 secs long beeping noise. At first I thought the CPU was overheating or something, but nope, it never got hotter than 50 C. So I restarted, same beep again, then a few minutes after that one short beep. After that, everything runs normally. No more beeps, no hardware problems, no malware, nothing.
The weird thing about that is not only that the BIOS shouldn't be beeping at all after booting up, but also that on IBM, there is no "one long beep" error message at all. It's always long-short-short or something.
So yeah. I'm confused. Help?

1174288 2011-02-01 18:33:00 So it's not a BIOS beep then, especially if it occurs after getting into Windows. pctek (84)

Do you have any speakers attached, if not, the beep could be a start up procedure which has failed and the beep is from windows to notify you, have you check the event log for error messages!

No, no speakers. But I checked the log and found an Application Popup error 1060
This is translated by me but it says something like "Because of incompatibility with this system \SystemRoot\SysWow64\Drivers\StarOpen.SYS could not be loaded. Ask the software producer for a compatible version of the driver."
Could that be it? And is it harmful somehow? Everything seems to be alright right now.
:thanks

1174292 2011-02-02 11:20:00 Is CdburnerXP installed?? Looks like StarOpen.SYS maybe part of this. What version of windows is it? And is it 32 or 64 bit? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1174293 2011-02-02 12:10:00 Sounds like some program or part of Windows encountering an error on startup. Agent_24 (57)

No, it isn't. I've got Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

1174295 2011-02-02 15:10:00 Okay, so I looked around a little and found this on techsupportforum.com
"staropen.sys is a Kernel-level I/O operations helper driver from Rocket Division Software, which from my understanding, allows you to bypass windows system permissions, which are required by some CD/DVD writer software so to be able to burn without being administrator/domain admin/power user."
I think it might be a remainder of New Samsung PC Studio. It's incompatible with 64bit, I deinstalled it before but some of the dll files are still there
So I don't need it anyway. I'll just let it be or, if I get more errors, delete it from the registry
Thanks anyway :)

1174296 2011-02-02 19:22:00 No, it isn't. I've got Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

syswow64 is a file associated with 16bit programs!....it WILL not run on a x64bit PC, i have no idea how it installed or what program it is.....
The PC may well beep when attempting to start the program associated with this file...
