2011-02-01 04:07:00 | Trying to install PP viewer on a XP machine and it while it installs it wont automatically configure XP so that clicking on a .pp file all it does is create a file in a temp folder. Way back when I first started with XP I seem to recall there was an initial setup where you nominated what files were opened with which programs. Is this the problem & if so where the heck do I find it :crying? | bugalugs67 (9647) | |
2011-02-01 04:10:00 | I think you need the full version of PP so it'll open on a double click. Dont you have to select open / load in the viewer to open it? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2011-02-01 04:28:00 | Just finishing Off a customers XP PC and only just put in the latest Power point Viewer about 10 minutes ago -- This one from MS (www.microsoft.com) - you either go Via all programs, double click Power point Viewer, a box opens you navigate to the PP file and select it. Or go to the Power point file, double click it, and the viewer automatically opens and plays. You dont need the full program installed. PP Viewer is only for viewing an existing presentation.

2011-02-01 10:25:00 | [. Or go to the Power point file, double click it, and the viewer automatically opens and plays. That is the part where it falls over. Nothing happens. It's not the full program just the free Viewer for Power Point created files. Have installed both the 2003 & the 2007 versions. Have already installed it on a couple of machines, no problems. Thanks for the suggestions, will check them out Thursday when I get back to that machine.

2011-02-03 08:38:00 | Well I tried all the suggestions and am still no further than square one. It appears that for some reason PPV installs itself in one folder and then When a *.PPS file is doubleclicked the viewer program cannot be found. The version from M/soft suggested by wainuitec downloads but installs itself in C:documentsandssettings\allusers\startmenue\progra ms. No matter how many times I direct it to install in the regular C:Programs/ The assist PPSFix_2_1.zip file suggested by jinja_thom downloaded but was hung up not being able to find the PPViewer program again because it was buried in C:documentsanXXXXX\programs. There was a ‘Manual Fix’ offered but it gets as far as telling it that the file to fix is in C:\Programs xxxxxx.exe”%1” But the program is not there !! At that stage I gave up. Until I go back next week. One error message was “application could not be opened; associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preference” So, How do get XP to recognise and comply with my request to install PowerPointViewer in C:\Programs folder and how do I make sure that doubleclicking on a *.PPS file XP will look for the right Program in the right place ???

2011-02-04 03:32:00 | PPViewer is an entirely different application to Powerpoint Viewer and so will probably install in a different location. Powerpoint viewer is a Microsoft application and if downloaded and run will install in C:\program files\Microsoft office\office12. The executable file is called PPTVIEW.exe. "PPViewer is a viewer for two-way spectroscopic data, in particular time-resolved spectra where the first dimension is wavelength or wave number....etc" Abbreviations can sometimes be confusing.
