1174961 2011-02-03 08:01:00 the only thing that could make that sound (whine, hum) is the toroidal coil (inductor), that is a donut shape ferrite core with copper wire wrapped around it. The thing is vibrating, that's what produces the sound. Manufacturers put a clear or colored varnish to prevent it from moving, to prevent the sound, but sometimes they don't put enough, you can fix that by putting a little bit of hot melt adhesive on the coil. it's a mechanical issue not an electronic one From post #7, you have these on your motherboard too; as mentioned before, get a piece of hose or tube, take the side cover off and see if you can find the noise-producing part exactly, then try the above suggestion (if it is an inductor coil, use more caution if its not). feersumendjinn (64)
1174962 2011-02-03 08:39:00 Bad caps ?
Failing voltage regulators ?
Try setting fans to always on( Seems to effect Intel Core duo CPUs)

1174963 2011-02-03 08:58:00 I had a similar problem with a coolermaster 550w psu... everytime I'd browse the web and scroll up/down, there would be an annoying whine.

I moaned to the shop to the point where they finally caved and replaced my psu and voila... whiny psu sound gone.

Try changing power settings in windows from powersaver, balance and performance... see if the whine gets worse @ performance.

1174964 2011-02-03 09:17:00 If your PSU is making any strange whining noises, stop using it immediately.

A crappy PSU can fail quite spectacularly, and destroy the rest of your computer when it does so.

1174966 2011-02-03 09:30:00 btw psu has 3 year warranty so if it's the psu I'm covered.

They'll probably just give you another crap one, which is not a good solution.

1174967 2011-02-04 04:53:00 Ok. I'm 99% sure it's the bearings in the cpu fan. Sh!tty cheaply made free no brand heatsinks FTW! icow (15313)
