1132919 2010-08-30 01:22:00 Every time the phone rings the internet disconnects. We're using a splitter but every time the phone rings the internet disconnects (wireless and lan). Any ideas? icow (15313)
1132920 2010-08-30 01:39:00 There will be a filtering issue. You must have a line filter on every used jackpoint in the house. wratterus (105)
1132921 2010-08-30 01:55:00 Easy - don't answer the phone :) :) Zippity (58)

He's got a splitter.

Who installed the splitter? I'd be getting them back to check the problem with it.

You need a splitter on EVERY jack with a phone, alarm, or sky connection, not just the one with the internet jack!

If all are jacks split, then one of them is faulty!

1132924 2010-08-30 03:12:00 Do I need one on every jack point or just the one with the modem and phone? icow (15313)
1132925 2010-08-30 03:19:00 Every point that has anything plugged into it.

Sky, monitored alarms, phones...

We've said that at least twice... :p

1132926 2010-08-30 03:28:00 Actually, I think we are all getting confused on the wording.....Im just as bad....A line filter is required on any jack that has a device plugged in, a splitter is installed by a telephone technician and splits the signal for the whole house.....so the OP needs to confirm what is installed, a line filter or a splitter! Yes.
Filters are the little gadgets you plug into the jackpoint.
Splitters are a device they install to split the signal - broadband on one jackpoint only - and phone only on all the rest.

If it's a splitter some tech would have installed it.
Get him back.

If it's filters, start swapping them out one by one to find the faulty one.

I thought all us techy types knew the difference.

1132928 2010-08-30 03:57:00 9 times out of 10 when someone asks me for a splitter it turns out they want a filter anyway, I do know the difference. :p

But you and Sol may well be right in this case, we will have to wait for icow to let us know what type he is talking about.
