| 1134382 | 2010-09-03 20:12:00 | I need to advise someone the better route from here (Napier) to Wellington. I've never driven from here to there. Any advice, please? As far as I can tell there's two options... either via Masterton or via Kapiti Coast. Thanks for any tips. |

| 1134383 | 2010-09-03 20:20:00 | Similar distancewise but probably less traffic and therefore quicker via Masterton. Some don't like driving the Rimutuka Hill but I don't find it a problem. My preference is via Masterton. Tell them to take the bypass before Masterton to save time. It is about 10km short of Masterton and signposted. | user (1404) | ||

| 1134385 | 2010-09-03 20:34:00 | Did SH2 a few years back - the drive between Hastings and Masterton seems to never end and is as boring as hell. Suggest you get some entertainment and a ton of coffee. If I had to do it again I'd go back to Taupo and down SH1. |

Good call. Definitely not boring if riding a motorcycle. :D Yeah, the traffic via Otaki can be horrible. The Napier - Masterton road usually has little traffic and the bonus is that you can stop in :lol: Eketahuna. :lol: |

| 1134390 | 2010-09-03 22:24:00 | Napier Wellington via Manawatu Gorge as you exit the gorge and before you cross the Ashurst bridge turn left and go down that road via Shannon and when you get to Levin take the Levin bypass and continue via the Kapiti coast. :) |

| 1134391 | 2010-09-03 23:52:00 | That would be follow SH2 from Napier and through the Manawatu Gorge then turn onto SH57 just after you exit the gorge then join SH1 just the other side of Levin. Check it out on Google Earth/Maps. :) |
