1134521 2010-09-04 03:36:00 Gary, some climber being interviewed on steam radio this am said that hundreds of tonnes of rock has fallen off Cathedral Rock on the Port Hills and crashed into the trees above the road tunnel. Maybe the favourite climbs will have been changed forever... John H (8)
1134522 2010-09-04 03:46:00 I wondered why youse guys were so quiet this AM. I usually see a lot more traffic on F1 after about 2PM our time and as yet, there's just a few people here even now at 4PM our time.

What about the Tsunami warning?
We reminded the Tsunami that it has had it's final warning, so it stayed away.

I hadn't heard that. Sure there wasn't some confusion between Castle Rock (ChCh) and Castle Hill?

My diddlebrain son left Hokitika (after having been under a table with his wife and kids at 4.30m) some time after 7am to go skiing for the day. He had bought a season ticket, but hadn't used it, so decided he was going to get some benefit out of it. And that is probably at Craigieburn, just above Castle Hill.

Just imagine those huge boulders rolling and bouncing across the main west highway if they broke apart...

1134529 2010-09-04 06:25:00 They were saying earlier on that this one compares to the 1931 Napier quake

Hardly. Napier was wiped out in that.

I think a Tsunami only results from underwater quakes; as this one was centred quite a few miles inland, there wasn't an issue.

Whatever, the people of Christchurch must be suffering. As if everybody hasn't suffered today with the loss of 9 lives in a sky diver plane crash ....
