| 1134395 | 2010-09-05 00:48:00 | I always use State Highway 50 to join SH2 near Takapau. Then down SH2 and through the Manawatu Gorge before taking the short cut on SH 57 through to Levin. Only consider going through the Wairarapa on long weekend and holidays, otherwise it is quite a bit slower. It is however probably more scenic if you have the time. |

| 1134396 | 2010-09-05 21:12:00 | Napier Wellington via Manawatu Gorge as you exit the gorge and before you cross the Ashurst bridge turn left and go down that road via Shannon and when you get to Levin take the Levin bypass and continue via the Kapiti coast. :) I agree with the above. I drove to Napier and back once a month for about 2 years and this route was consistantly 30 min quicker than the Wiarapa route. Only once got caught in the Otaki traffic bottleneck on a sunday of a long weekend. |
