1460253 2019-04-30 00:16:00 How many on this forum are fans of the Aussie V8 supercars racing? I have been watching them for years and SWMBO knows better than to disturb me when I am viewing a race on the TV. I have been a little perturbed at the problems going on this year after the introduction of the Ford Mustang. The Supercar wallahs seem hell bent on hobbling them as they are pretty successful so far. So, I sat and penned a comment (as follows) to their feedback site.

I quite agree on the parity restrictions imposed on the Mustangs. (Yeah, right!!)

I thought at the time of Le Mans in 1953 that Jaguar should have been penalised for being the first to install disk brakes on their cars. Doing this gave them an advantage over the other cars. Truly "Not cricket, old chap"

Seriously, are you guys are for real? I am 76 and have been a follower of motor sport since the early 1950's. I always thought that one of the benefits of motor racing was the improvement of the racing cars would pass on to ordinary cars. Safety, performance reliability design, just to mention a few.

So far, this has been the case up until you guys hobbled the Mustang which was obviously a better thought out setup than Holden and Nissan.

How backward thinking this is. If this is in the rules, well, change the darned rules. I love the V8 racing, but am starting to lose interest in it because of what you people are doing. It is hard to think why, other than there is cronyism going on.

You opinions please.

I used to live and breathe it, just like F1. Brocky knew I was alive (he kinda waved, my heart missed a beat) when I'd wander around the pits after racing when the Nissan Mobil 500 was on in Welly many moons ago. I still have attached to my key ring a metal FORD thingy I bought back then.

Not into it as much these days - was getting boring and predictable though the Gizz and his antics are piquing my interest again. I like his f-you attitude and he's a bit of a non-conformist. Pulling up beside Mclaughlan a while ago so he couldn't get out of his car was priceless.

Opinion? I kindof agree with your sentiment above, though I also agree with parity between the cars so the racing is more about the drivers. She a fine line that one ...

1460256 2019-04-30 01:05:00 Where were you a few years back when the Holdenites imposed similar draconian penalties on the then winning Nissan Skyline?

:(

1460257 2019-04-30 01:29:00 Same thing Zippity :) I am keen on development, not parity. There will be no developement while parity exists.

( must confess, I loved the Skylines!!)

I tried watching them Lurks, but, nothing sounds quite like a petrol engine built for racing.

1460260 2019-04-30 02:11:00 I love watching the races, although don't get to much these days as we don't have Sky. Still keep up with news & live timing during races etc. I think Holden, and Red Bull in particular are a protected species, Roland must have sore knees by now surely. You didn't see anything happening when they dominated for so long. As soon as the Mustangs win a few races it's no good. The whole thing is becoming a bit of a joke. wratterus (105)
1460261 2019-04-30 02:21:00 "Originally only for Ford Falcons and Holden Commodores, the New Generation V8 Supercar regulations, introduced in 2013, opened up the series to more manufacturers.["

This is why I didn't. Ford vs Holden, that's not a proper race.
Like having 2 horses in a horse race....mad.

Now that it is more cars I would take an interest, I like F1....

1460262 2019-04-30 02:24:00 I think if you are going to impose restrictions so that the race is down to driver skill then really you should take it all the way and have everyone driving the exact same car.
I think an open class where manufacturers could go nuts trying to outdo each other would be awesome, but I also see a lot of value in attempting to prevent the race being about who has the fastest car and keep it to who is the better driver.
In an Ideal world we would have both.

I also think Electric racing can evolve into something just as enjoyable, and high performance electric cars are not that quiet.

But for me personally my favourite motorsport has always been speedway because I can see the whole race, there's a lot of action, and the races are short and exciting. So many other races can only be seen on a TV or it's just a few cars whizzing by briefly once a lap.
