1460175 2019-04-26 04:06:00 My ECO-500 is 12 years old. As I've gotten older I'm finding the battery really heavy and also very difficult to put in place and remove which seems to be due to the thick plastic where the battery sits warping over time. It would be good if I could leave it in the mower while charging, making sure the safety key is removed. Thanks bellbird (6169)
1460176 2019-04-26 07:17:00 Is it a lead acid battery? if so it might give off hydrogen while charging so needs to be well ventilated.

So as long as it's not closed in it should be ok, I'm sure the manufacturers will say no to cover their butts in case it catches fire or something.
I'd do it myself if that means anything.

.

Lead acid - like car batteries. Which charge all the time when driving.....

1460178 2019-04-26 22:44:00 Thanks dugimodo and piroska. I found the manual which says "the battery pack is composed of two completely sealed 12V lead acid batteries inside a pack......there is no hazardous chemical which can leak from the battery pack regardless of position in which the mower is stored". There is nothing about not charging while battery it's in the mower, just charging instructions with heading "Charging with the battery pack removed from the mower". Manufacturer would probably say no as you've said dugimodo but they also say to not to remove the two batteries from inside the pack which means paying around $130+ for a new battery pack but I've seen that you can buy just the two batteries from a company which advertises that they are ok for this type of pack and a much cheaper way to go and something I'll need to consider soon. Maybe I could find a way to soften the plastic sides of where the battery sits and push back the warped parts......if that makes sense bellbird (6169)
1460179 2019-04-27 02:07:00 You should be fine to charge it in place. dugimodo (138)

1460181 2019-04-28 07:52:00 I have two Enviro Mowers. You can leave the battery in when charging.
Replacement 12 volt batteries can be purchased from JayCars and many other sources at a fraction of the price of the original. Just unscrew the end cap of the battery box, and change the batteries. Make sure that the push on terminals are clean, and fitting snugly.

1460182 2019-04-28 22:24:00 Thanks for that info mzee. I've had a good run of nearly nine years with this battery after learning it needed to be charged for a minimum 24 hours. The original one died after 3 years use due to the distributor's incorrect info advising to charge for only 12 hours which they changed some time after I bought my mower. Best I could get from them at the time was a discounted new battery. bellbird (6169)
1460183 2019-04-29 00:56:00 Just out of curiosity what's the run time like on those mowers? I have a Lithium Ion powered Ryobi and can't quite mow my lawn on a single battery. I get 30-45 mins depending how long the grass is.
Love the electric mower though, never going back to petrol.

1460184 2019-04-29 03:09:00 It's hard to tell the run time. Until recently it would comfortably mow my average sized lawn and large berm so around the same time as yours probably in normal conditions. I never let it run down to where it's obviously slowing and they don't like long lush grass, needing a skim off the top and then a re-mow. I recharge it for 24hrs after every mow even during summer growth conditions when the battery would still have quite a lot of charge left and for 36hrs every few months. Hoping to get through the winter with it as is and get new batteries for spring. Victa took over distribution after I bought my mower and I'm not sure whether they are still available. It's probably under powered compared to battery mowers available and the cutting width is a bit narrow. I've only had the blades sharpened once - last year. I wouldn't go back to petrol either. bellbird (6169)
