| 1459496 | 2019-03-25 19:09:00 | Had to do some work today from an image of Windows 2000 from an old PC so I restored it to a VM in Fusion and it runs so nicely. I think Win2k was by far my favorite OS. Definitely had the best startup sound at least. Very snappy VM on an i9 MacBook and even though it can't handle the full "retina" resolution it looks ridiculous using an interface that was designed for 1024x768 monitors at 1080p. | 1459499 | 2019-03-25 19:50:00 | Windows 98se Windows 7 I liked 3.11 as well but it didn't play many games so it doesn't make my list. XP was fine and all, but it caused me a lot of trouble in the early days which sours the memories so that doesn't make it either. 98 was the first version of windows to properly support USB otherwise I might have picked windows 95. My copy of 95 had some USB support but it was patchy and very few devices actually worked with it. (I still have that disk somewhere). And windows 7 just looked so much nicer and is still a very dependable OS. I've noted over the years MS seems to create it's best OSes on the second attempt - except maybe with XP unless you count service pack 1. XP was a combination of server OS and consumer GUI. Essentially Windows 98 is windows 95 with improvements Windows 7 is windows vista with improvements Windows 10 is windows 8 with improvements |

It always worked really well for me, though I never used it preloaded with crapware and did a clean install instead of an upgrade. Here's to classic Windows :punk |

It was small, portable, easy to reinstall, easy to back up, and it just sat there doing nothing at all until you fed it a command, which it then performed and went back to doing nothing. Brilliant. Modern GUIs? I guess Linux these days. Not quite so doing nothing, but fairly quiet. And pretty easy for the not clued up to use now. |
