1457283 2019-01-12 19:56:00 Good morning,

I have an iMac, mid 2011, I bought this stick of RAM yesterday ( www.corsair.com) which is a 4GB RAM stick however the Mac is only displaying 2GB. I have 2GB in the remaining slots. I do feel with this 4GB stick that the computer is definitely faster!! Anyone know what is going on??

1457284 2019-01-12 20:41:00 Try it with just the new 4GB, since the other slot has 2GB already, remove it.

Some reasons memory doesn't detect are, Incompatible, bad RAM module, faulty / Dirty Slot on the motherboard, firmware issue.

Some Computers can be really particular about what memory is used.

1457285 2019-01-12 22:25:00 Reset the PRAM on the computer. Do this by booting up while holding down the options-command-P-R keys all at once until you hear a second set of boot chimes, then release the keys and allow the computer to boot normally. Safari (3993)
1457286 2019-01-12 23:30:00 If I attempt to do the PRAM, I only get a white screen, no second boot.... when I let go...it just boots up normally, I have attempted to take another 2GB out, leaving the 4GB in the row only while the other 2GB are in the bottom row to no avail, it continues to see it as a 2GB stick... mark1978 (13845)
1457287 2019-01-12 23:37:00 PRAM done.... no difference... displays 8GB, but has 10GB installed, all slots say 2GB mark1978 (13845)
1457288 2019-01-13 02:32:00 Silly question but have you checked the labels on the new 4G to see that it actually 4g? Bryan (147)

1457290 2019-01-14 00:31:00 The link in the original post is for 2x2GB RAM modules, so only 2GB each.
Are you installing 2 new sticks of RAM or just 1?

Hey hello, yeah my understanding was that it was 4GB, I’ll just put up with it until I can get two same modules of ram 2x 4GB, that will solve the issue for sure
