I cant understand why some of the cheap ones work and mine did not.
.[/QUOTE]

Where did you buy it from?
I can think of a place that sells super expensive stuff - that is all crap - knock-offs of better quality things.

That TV Shop...Brand Developers.

Not cheap - because they over price them, but actually cheap as in what it is and what it cost to make.

Some of the cheap ones may work for a while

Just like Enloop Batteries, there is plenty of imitators form Chinese sites I have fallen for that are crap

1459590 2019-04-07 05:21:00 Hello
I often leave my car lights on (dur), and for other reasons often need to use Jumper Cables or my old 900amp Red Mechpro Jump Starter.

But both of these items are getting old, and they are quite bulky.

So I have seen these new small units on tv and on Trademe and Youtube etc.

So I bought one the other day from TM
It was the High-Power unit. Rated at 68,000ma (but that's another story.

The long and short of it is that I tested it twice on two flat battery cars and it hardly managed to turn the engine over once, before all the blue LED lights went out.

So I am asking for a refund.
Does anyone know or have a unit that works well, as I really want to have one in my car for trips and for my g/f.

Dunno if they have jump starters for them anyway, but it is very lucky you don't have a Nissan Leaf. Push starting a car for 100km with the brakes on (to use regenerative braking for recharging) is going to wear your g/f right out. If it happens to be raining, chocolates and a bunch of flowers is not going to get you off the hook.
Years ago they had an auto-light-off feature, after about 35 minutes the lights would dim, by 50 minutes they would go off.
Lucas had a preemptive system whereby the lights started going off a few miles or minutes after you left home, by the time you'd gone 45 minutes from home the lights were firmly off.
(If your g/f won't start, for god's sake don't put jumper leads on her ;) )

1459591 2019-04-07 05:52:00 I work in a hire place and always starting things with flat batteries. Got some advice from Western Auto Electrical and that was stay away from the jump starters because they just dont last very long. Their advice some heavy duty jumper cables and a big f**** off battery. prefect (6291)

Yes I agree that heavy duty jumper cables and a good big battery is the best option.
I bought some thin (cheap) jumper leads years ago when I was really broke) and they would not start many cars as they were just too weak.

But the jumper leads are not always an option due to positioning and may be you are out late night all on your own.

So that is why I want a small jumper unit.
I have one of the big ones - but it takes up a lot of room.
If get a small one and it lasts me 5 years I'd be happy.

I ordered one of these, and it arrived today.
I tested it by leaving my lights on and it started the car OK.
I don't know how it would go if the battery was completely dead.
(I'll test for that later)
Thanks for the heads up
