1459577 2019-04-01 00:30:00 It's frustrating to me, car manufacturers will add all kinds of bells and whistles in an attempt to sell you their cars but they won't add circuitry to prevent you flattening the battery too low.
They could have been doing this for decades, it's a simple thing to do.

Whatever happened to the power beat battery, seemed like a good Idea at the time.

I think the inventor - the maori chap Witehira (a former builder) - mis-managed up the business side of thinks (I think). A business manager was appointed,. I think it was essentially a battery within a battery setup. As you say car manufacturer's could do similar, so that the inner battery never runs flat...

They did.
My 1990 vintage Mazda would beep at me if & left headlights on & removed key from ignition.
My 1990 Ford laser , same car different body, didnt have that . Trying to save $2 on a buzzer & relay I guess .

Circuitry to stop batt going flat. I can see why not.
There are emergencies when keeping headlights or parking lights on is vastly more important than maintaining batt voltage.

Sure, so tie it into the ignition so you have to leave the key in deliberately to override the auto cutoff.

It occurs to me it is better with modern cars, if I lock my doors and walk away my headlights do turn off so that's most of the problem fixed at last.
I had forgotten that feature as I always turn the lights off.

1459581 2019-04-02 07:24:00 I had a Fiat 1100 1953 model which switched off the headlamps when you pulled out the ignition key, so simple. My Suzuki beeps if the headlights are on, and you remove the key, and open the door. mzee (3324)
1459582 2019-04-02 07:38:00 I bought a cheapo of Trademe for about $50. It is Yellow. Don't know if it has a name.
Works amazingly well when I regularly leave my lights on. Some times the battery is dead flat but if the device is kept charged up it always works. Don't know how long it will last for $50 but I have had it about a year now.

1459583 2019-04-02 07:39:00 My Camry lights turn off after about a minute. Wish the Corolla did. tut (12033)
1459584 2019-04-02 19:22:00 The last 2 cars I have had would beep if doors open, lights on etc.
My old Sprinter would automatically turn off the headlights too...not this current one...the Sprinter was a 1996 model.

So they do.

But batteries die. My mums did recently, she averages 5000km a year, all these short trips, start, stop, battery doesn't get any long runs to charge properly. Having said that the last one lasted 4 years...not bad.

1459585 2019-04-03 03:25:00 It looks like that Power All one at Mitre 10 and Noel Leeming is good. Its made by a top USA company.
I will wait til its on special at Noel Leeming.
I cant understand why some of the cheap ones work and mine did not.
It looked well made, and had lots of nice features.
Batteries and Beeping is a different topic, as batteries can die or get weak.
I seem to miss the beeping.
