| 1459508 | 2019-03-27 05:25:00 | Fedora with the KDE desktop environment. I went from Red Hat Linux when it was discontinued (in that form) to Fedora Core 1 and worked my way up the releases. Cannot remember which release I last used, but it has been a long time now. Fond memories. :) | Jen (38) | ||
| 1459509 | 2019-03-27 08:10:00 | Peanut Linux made me smile a lot, it was possibly the most stable OS on antique hardware I ever tried, although it was a bit tricky to learn initially. Peoples old machines that were a bit stressed with Win 3.1.1 seemed to really leap out of the blocks and dash into the fray with just the first whiff of Peanut. Win 2000 was great, it could do a days work very stably if it had enough hardware. Now I'm happy with Linux Mint, or Windows 7 (As long as updates are turned off, W7 just does what it's asked to. It's almost as good as old Linux just not as spritely.) XP was ok after SP1~3 got the sulks and driver purgatory out of the way. W10 is ok for people who like the instability and having it demand SOTA hardware to handle the extreme stress of running the OS with hopefully a little bit of resource to actually run a program sandwiched between the updates. Since the thing demands so much to do so little, and with a clumsy interface plus the infernal no opt-out of downgrades, it never really appealed to me. I have lots of favourite programs that would die under W10%, I fail to see why I should give a toss that the "support" for W7 is going to stop. I've not used it, the support is only good for stuffing things up, and making the PC boot a little slower each week. New applications that demand W10% to install do not stand a chance around here. If somebody wants me to make their computer go again after ther no-back-ups HDD has died, they'll Linux Mint with KDE. If they really want it, and provide the disk, I'll put in W7 grudgingly. (It just takes so xxxxxx long . . .) |
