1460322 2019-05-02 01:22:00 I think there are some Genealogy experts on this forum so here’s one out of left field.

My great grandmother, on my Mothers side, had a maiden name of: 9580

Any guesses anyone as to what that reads?

It was scanned off her Marriage Certificate.

1460323 2019-05-02 02:00:00 Would Cannanghry be a name?
Looks weird - could be Welsh.

1460324 2019-05-02 04:27:00 A few more details would help.

Several Genealogy sites had freee weekends lately.

If you put your details into FamilySearch.org you may get sopme good hits. They are free as well.

FaceBook also, yes I know they are being sued, but the help on there is also very good. Free to join whatever country group is on there.

Name looks like CAVANAGH, Irish no doubt.

1460327 2019-05-02 06:08:00 Thanks guy’s and Gal’s .

@ Lurking: You have an excellent point . The comparison of handwriting to words you know would be a help . To this end here is the rest of the certificate .

You may also be right in your guess of Irish blood, as her Married Surname was Scanlan . But her mothers maiden name is what I am looking for, along with others .

Character building stuff this Genaolgy . :)

1460328 2019-05-02 07:53:00 NZ BDM from Internal Affairs are now online, though with time-line search restrictions. So once you get a name you can search and confirm within marriages here. (www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz). You can then can confirm from Death and Birth searches. Variations in naming/spelling can help too in my BDM search experience. kahawai chaser (3545)
1460329 2019-05-02 08:12:00 Names can be a bit incorrect on NZ certificates. That I know - my Grandmothers name is slightly different on her death and my Grandfathers (hers husband) certificates. The medical examiner might spell names wrong, particularity foreign, maori, and long names. Also some middle names were swapped for surnames I think - thus impeding searching a bit. kahawai chaser (3545)
1460330 2019-05-02 08:44:00 Try blowing the image size up. I did up to 400. My guess is this.

Ca***aughry. After the Ca I put wi. Cawiaughry? The r could be an e. The wi is wrong. I Googled Irish surnames & got no hits..This might give you a few ideas to think about. Good Luck. PJ
