1457182 2019-01-08 22:17:00 I have decided not to spend the cash on a NOD32 licence for the childs laptop
Its not worth it, just wipe and reimage if necessary.

What is the best of the free ones these days please?

1457183 2019-01-08 22:30:00 I just use defender, and every now and again do a scan with NOD32s free online tool and whatever malware scanner is currently most recommended to supplement it.

But a childs laptop is maybe a bit more at risk than my PCs, user behaviour is the biggest risk of infection I think most would agree.
I think bit defender and Avira rate reasonably among the free otpions but I haven't tried them recently.

1457184 2019-01-08 23:38:00 The best free one is the one that's already included with Windows 10. pcuser42 (130)

1457186 2019-01-09 02:24:00 Terrible idea. The child has less common sense and therefore is more likely to get malware.
Free - meh. Do it properly, especially being a child.

1457187 2019-01-09 02:32:00 None of the free ones are any good. IMO defender is the best option if you must use a free one, but would highly recommend purchasing Eset NOD32. wratterus (105)

:tui:

Seen the ad on TV regarding some finance company, where the father asks the kids "the Computer is for homework eh" ( similar wording) and the look on their /his face. ;)

If it were strictly for School, many schools these days all you need is something like a chromebook, as everything is on line and you cant get infections.

There is another way, which I have set up a few years back on some PC's you install a program that will automatically roll the computer back to a safe state on each reboot /shutdown-Startup, The one I used was Deep Freeze.

Only problem with some of the programs ( read free mainly) is you cant install and save anything to the PC as its wiped (including infections) so anything thing you want saved has to be USB / LAN storage/ Cloud.
