1177609 2011-02-13 00:37:00 We are on a flat-rate 10GB plan and rarely exceed 5-6 GB per month. We had extra downloads for the daughter's laptop so our son was asked to cut his usage, which is currently high because he bought himself a new comp off TM and was loading all sorts of programs, many of which I already had stored on disk or on the PCW DvD. Instead he carried on and downloaded so much stuff that the usage checker went off the scale. Consequently we are now restricted to dial-up speed until the end of the nonth.

I can neither work effectively in my business nor complete the work on the laptop if I stay at dial up speed unti the end of the month. What are my options to get restored to full speed? Does Telecom allow you to pay a fee then return to normal service.

Worth asking before I ring them. Bugger the cost, he will be paying!

Cheers

1177611 2011-02-13 00:45:00 Ring them and upgrade (takes a few hours to switch) that's what I did, and really with teenage kids they go for it (video's, youtube, gaming, etc) - as I have found. I upgraded twice with 3 months. Now on the total home pro at 80 GB a month. We use around 60 GB. Knew I should have done so from the start... kahawai chaser (3545)
1177612 2011-02-13 01:08:00 You are in for an education sorry to say, that is you are purely in the hands of fate as to who at Telecom and which side of bed they got out of this am as to how you will be treated or whatever new brilliant marketing script they are reading this week. First though...2x teenagers and 10 gb..hell thats the plan for grandparents and is positively 3rd world. Talk to some Telecom CSReps in Manilla and find out what they get and at what price...
So I recommend you get right grumpy and ask why you as a very long term special customer havn't been phoned or visited in the last few months offering you double data for free and further like half my pals and common knowledge at my watering hole that you get double for free with no contract. Just to be loyal neighbours with no internet are getting just for staying loyal, free phones.
This topic has been around for months as to the disparate and very different treatment customers are being getting. Over on Geekzone too many telecom employees playing suck up on the subject, so at least here on F1 with its more independant talent you may get a more realistic comment on the wide ranging and generous offers being made (that dont always involve $$) to solve your problem. And rest assured some of us are getting looked after particular after the big time and go large debacles.

1177613 2011-02-13 01:10:00 Thanks

I've upgraded to flat rate 20GB/month plan at a cost of $10 extra, might add another zero on the end of that to make it $100, just to wake the selfish sod up a bit!

I assume it is all computer controlled, but should I phone to expedite it, or will it all happen sometime Monday?

Cheers

PS Son is still steaming after getting thoroughly reamed out for being a selfish and thoughtless B***. Might even leave home! :banana

1177614 2011-02-13 01:15:00 You might have to wait till the end of your billing cycle before it happens. I went the other way with Actrix, from a 20gb plan to a 10gb plan. They wouldn't change it till the end of the billing period.

1177615 2011-02-13 01:31:00 With telecom it usually happens within 48 hours just by filling in the form I linked to already. Snorkbox (15764)
1177616 2011-02-13 01:33:00 I did a online plan upgrade with Telecom/Xtra a short time ago (month or two) for my stepmother in Levin, was actioned within 48 hours. feersumendjinn (64)
1177617 2011-02-13 02:07:00 He shouldn't have wasted the data but 10GB is not much in this day and age. I did about 10GB in the last 6 hours at the end of last month.

I can get by with 20GB but I usually use about 30-35 as such I have the 40GB plan.

1177618 2011-02-13 03:27:00 I did an online update for the mother-in-law and it took about 24 hours. Another thing sometimes a reboot of the router will switch you back to full speed for a day or two.. paulw (1826)
