1176743 2011-02-10 02:30:00 This morning my fancy Orcon router died. Couldn't get a beep out of it. I phoned Orcon and they diagnosed "a faulty line" and would send someone to look at it, in about a week. I was sure it was the modem so I went and bought a $29 one from Dirty Dicks. Amazing. I hooked in the same wires and ran their disk, and it's a beauty
I used to have a d/l speed of under 3000 kbps according to NZ DSL. I am now getting13 Mbps! Upload is still about 600 kbps.
What annoys me is that Orcon repeatedly told me I was getting all my line would take.
I am wondering now what will happen to my speed when Orcon finds out.
Off now to have a play with Speedtest.net

1176744 2011-02-10 03:08:00 Sounds like your old router was ADSL1 and the new one is ADSL2+.
Seems strange that Orcon diagnosed a faulty line when the router is dead.
Could you access it via the web config page?

Should have asked you what modem you had. Old obviously.

It was a Linskey by Cisco or perhaps the other way around. I didn't take much notice of the brand.I got it because it was cheap. I just wanted to prove my modem was faulty.
My previous modem was a Gigaset, labelled ORCON. I have had it for 18 months and it's been costing me $5 a month. Orcon told me it was very good.
It will be a long time before I believe anything else Orcon trlls me.

1176748 2011-02-11 04:26:00 Just had a look on-line at my bank account. The modem cost me $129 NOT $29. If I had been a bit more careful I wouldn't have bought it. Oh well not to worry, I'm still raving about my speed increase. JJJJJ (528)
1176749 2011-02-11 04:40:00 Well spotted Inphinity. I was almost on my bike on the way to DSE to get one..................... Scouse (83)
1176750 2011-02-12 10:00:00 Sounds like your "Fancy" Orcon router was a block of cheese. The one they sent me was very mild. Using a Netcomm NB6Plus4Wn and am very happy. PPp (9511)
